Disrupting Behavioral Health Care

It's time to build healthier communities not just for some, but for all.

It's time to use technology to improve not only patient care, but the living conditions that make it possible for all people to reach their highest potential for health.

The 2020 AHA Innovation Challengesponsored by First American Healthcare Finance, is your opportunity to help people with behavioral health disorders live a more balanced, productive life.

It’s a growing crisis that needs our attention now:

  • One in every five American adults are living with a behavioral health disorder. Only half of them receive treatment.

  • Half of millennials and 75% of Gen Zers left their jobs for mental health reasons.

  • The number of people dealing with suicidal thoughts increased 47% from 2008 to 2017.

"Hospitals and health systems are a hotbed for innovative ideas for transforming health care," said Jay Bhatt, D.O., AHA senior vice president and chief medical officer in a recent press release. "This year's challenge is an opportunity to combine human compassion with innovative thinking to improve behavioral health care and save lives."

The challenge is open to all AHA members and their partners. The top three proposals will receive $100,000, $25,000 and $15,000, respectively, to help the innovators bring their ideas to life. Submissions are open through May 15, and the winners will be announced at July's AHA Leadership Summit.
